Boardrooms, Broadway, basketball and the Wall Street bull – Westminster economists head back to NYC
24 April 2024

The annual Sixth Form Easter trip to the financial capital of the world combined classroom with culture

The five day whistle-stop trip to New York was a mix of learning and sightseeing, with visits to the Federal Reserve and United Nations, talks at DAZN, Apax Partners and Offit Capital, and trips to see Hamilton on Broadway and the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

On their return to London, the tourists reflected on their time away.

Emily (Sixth Form, DD): “The economics trip was a great way to change the way you perceive the A Level content, as it enabled us to visualise and put into context the concepts we learn in the classroom. As well as enriching the syllabus, the trip was really enjoyable and proved to be an exciting way to experience such an iconic city.”

Valerie (Sixth Form, RR): “While the trip to New York only spanned five days, it was five days jam-packed with exciting activities. From understanding of the workings of successful streaming companies and private equity funds to visiting important institutions such as the UN and the Federal Reserve, there is no doubt that the trip both broadened our horizons and deepened our knowledge in economics. And of course we enjoyed watching the NBA match and the musical Hamilton (a personal favourite!) Overall, it was an incredibly fruitful experience and five unforgettable days well spent in learning and fun!”

Alex (Sixth Form, HH): “I thoroughly enjoyed the economics trip this year, above all the meeting with the private equity firm, Apax. It was incredible to see how such a business functions both day-to-day and in the long run. On the entertainment side, I had the most fun during the escape room, a challenge of teamwork and thinking. In the end we all got splashed by paint!”

Zara (Sixth Form, HH): “Our economics trip to New York was an enriching experience filled with opportunities to explore the financial hub of the United States. We had the chance to visit iconic landmarks such as Wall Street, United Nations and the Federal Reserve Bank, gaining first-hand insights into the workings of global finance. Meeting with industry experts, attending seminars, and networking with professionals providing valuable perspectives on economic trends and developments. Overall, our trip to New York was not only educational but also exciting, offering a deeper understanding of the economic landscape and its significance on a global scale.”
