Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunities to socialise outside working hours. All are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.
It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in September 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand-new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.
Our Reception will cultivate a love of learning, both through formal and child-initiated activities, and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors, both on our new play balcony and on Vincent Square, our 13-acre private playing field. High-quality adult interactions will prepare children for a stimulating and world-class education in Year 1 and beyond.
The role
Westminster Under School is looking for two exceptional Early Years Educators to join our Pre-Prep Team. This role goes far beyond that of a traditional Teaching Assistant. In Reception, our Early Years Educators are deeply involved in direct teaching, supporting children’s learning, development, and early foundations every day. It’s a highly skilled and impactful position, central to shaping our pupils’ first experiences of school. The two postholders will assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s progress across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Outside of lessons, they will supervise pupils during playtimes and assist with educational visits, as well as fulfil a range of administrative and practical tasks.
Applicants will need a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education and Childcare (or equivalent), and will be committed to continuing professional development. Experience of working with children in Early Years is essential. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who is empathetic and compassionate, with a good understanding of boundaries. Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied workload, are integral to the role. They will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who can build and maintain effective relationships with all members of the school community and inspire and motivate pupils.
This is a permanent, full-time, term-time only role. The salary is £25,124.62 – £28,000 per year (actual) equating to a full-time equivalent of £33,548.76 – £37,387.40 per annum, depending on experience.
