Westminster School is a busy and vibrant place to work. There is a real sense of community here as, being a boarding school, many members of staff and pupils live on site and the School’s premises are very much treated as a home away from home. Support staff as much as teaching staff are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending an evening concert or a morning service in the Abbey.
The IT Team works across both Westminster School, in Little Dean’s Yard and the surrounding streets, and Westminster Under School at Vincent Square. The team is integral to school life, delivering responsive day-to-day technical support to staff and pupils, supporting teaching, learning and the effective operation of the schools.
The role
Westminster is looking for a Senior Infrastructure and Security Engineer to be responsible for the stability, security and strategic development of the School’s core IT infrastructure. The role will provide technical leadership for network, firewall, server, cloud and identity platforms, ensuring they are robust, secure and aligned with safeguarding and cyber security best practice. Providing day-to-day technical direction to the IT and Network Engineer, the postholder will oversee standards, proactively identifying risks and driving enhancements that protect the School while supporting reliable delivery service. Due to the nature of this role, they will be required to work on site at our main site in Dean’s Yard with visits to the School’s linked prep school, Westminster Under School, as required.
The Senior Infrastructure and Security Engineer will have significant senior-level experience of managing complex IT infrastructure and will be an expert in enterprise networking, firewalls, server platforms and Microsoft cloud technologies. They will have detailed knowledge of cyber security and of owning technical standards, as opposed to simply administering systems. The ideal applicant will be adaptable and organised, with a high level of reliability, discretion and sound judgement. They will be able to translate strategic requirements into robust technical architecture and make and defend complex technical decisions in high-risk environments. Excellent communication and leadership skills are integral for this role. The postholder will have been formally educated to NVQ Level 6 or equivalent.
The role is full-time and permanent, with a salary of £58,000 – £62,000 per annum, depending on experience. The postholder will be required to work 35 hours a week within the 8.00am to 6.00pm operational window, with specific start and finish times determined by service requirements and agreed with the IT Operations Manager.
