Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunities to socialise outside working hours. All are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.

It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in September 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand-new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.

Our Pre-Prep Department will cultivate a love of learning, both through formal and child-initiated activities, and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the outdoors, both on our new play balcony and on Vincent Square, our 13-acre private playing field. High-quality adult interactions will prepare children for a stimulating and world-class education in Year 1 and beyond.

The role
Westminster Under School is looking for a caring and positive Teaching Assistant to join our Lower School team, to help support the pastoral and academic development of our first-ever Reception pupils. They will assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s progress across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). As we move to welcoming girls to the School, the Teaching Assistant will play a key role in contributing to a positive, inclusive and supportive co-educational environment for all our pupils. They will support pupils individually and in small groups, particularly with early reading, phonics and language development. Outside of lessons, the Teaching Assistant will supervise pupils during playtimes and assist with educational visits. The postholder will also fulfil a range of administrative and practical tasks.

Reception Teaching Assistants need a good understanding of the EYFS framework and Development Matters and must have a full and relevant Level 3 qualification. Knowledge and understanding of the Key Stage 1 curriculum would also be advantageous. Pupils at Westminster Under School progress rapidly, often working at levels above typical Reception expectations. The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator who is empathetic and compassionate, with a good understanding of boundaries. Strong organisational and administration skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied workload, are integral to the role. They will be an outstanding classroom practitioner who can build and maintain effective relationships with all members of the school community and inspire and motivate pupils.

This is a permanent, full-time, term-time only role. The salary is £25,124.62 (actual), equating to a full-time equivalent of £33,548.76 per annum.
