The oldest game: Westminster v Charterhouse 160th anniversary fixture in pictures
21 March 2024

Delayed from 2023, the fixture in March 2024 proved a fitting end to the winter sport season

No school football fixture has as much history as the match between Westminster and Charterhouse, first played on Vincent Square in 1863, the same year that football as we know it today was codified.

As well as being the world’s oldest schools football fixture, it also lays claim to being the world’s oldest ongoing fixture between any teams or clubs. This 160th anniversary match was delayed by a term, meaning Charterhouse weren’t able to field their full first-choice team, but the match proved competitive, with Westminster taking a 3-0 win.
